Welcome to Clotheshorse, the podcast that finds Tamagotchi-raising way too high pressure, despite having a human child and five cats of my own.
I’m Amanda and this is episode 150, the final episode of 2022! But never fear, we are going out on a high note as Jess returns for part two of our conversation about toy crazes. If you haven’t listened to part one, go do it now! We’ll wait for you! In this episode, we’ll be talking about the environmental impact of toys (spoiler: it’s depressing), and then we’ll dissect some of the biggest toy crazes of the 80s and 90s: Cabbage Patch Kids, Teddy Ruxpin, Furby, Tamagotchi, and Tickle Me Elmo. I love toys, still love them so much, so this was a super fun way to end the year! I’m going to warn you in advance that this episode is super long, but you’ll have plenty of time to work your way through it while I’m on break.
Before we jump into all of the toy madness, we have two final audio essays from small businesses: Courtney of Harkin and Annette of Mannerly. Let’s give them a listen!!
Thank you Jess for spending almost four hours with me talking about toys! What an amazing way to end this year! I’m sure by now you are following Jess on all the social media platforms, but just in case you aren’t: you can find her on instagram as @jesinspace (that’s with one S) and also on TikTok (where she shares some awesome videos) as jesinspace (yes, still one S). I’m hoping to get Jess back in January/February to talk about influencers. So stay tuned for that!
Alright everyone….this is the end of episode 150 and another year of Clotheshorse! As I mentioned at the top of the show, I’ll be taking a few weeks off because I’m going to Japan with Dustin. And because I need a little bit of a break to read, think, write, and get inspired. I’ll still be around on social media, but I have quite a reading list for our trip! I just want to thank all of you for spending another year with me. I am so grateful to all of you who read/share my posts, listen to the podcast, etc. Clotheshorse has changed my life because it has introduced me to so many people, and I have learned so much along the way. This time we spend together really helps me in so many ways: feel less alone, stay motivated, get inspired, and feel supported. I might be the person talking into the microphone, but it’s all of you who keep it going and give me the strength to do the work. And through all of this, I have been growing right alongside all of you!
Alright, have a happy new year. Don’t forget to check out my other podcast, The Department…and I’ll “see” you all next year!
